USMNT honors team members with large yellow billboards in their hometowns sharing messages from beloved fictional coach Ted Lasso…with only six days left until the World Cup kicks off in Qatar
America’s most beloved soccer coach decided to drop some words of motivation and appreciation for the U.S. national team as the World Cup approaches.
Across the country, in the homes of USMNT members, yellow billboards with blue letters displayed heartwarming and encouraging messages, signed by none other than Ted Lasso.
The brainchild of multiple Emmy Award winner Jason Sudeikis has been busy since US Soccer released their official list of players who made the trip to Qatar.
Multiple images on these billboards have made their way across social media, showing the posts intended to give the players hope and help them “believe,” as Ted would put it.

On social media, those seen highlighted achievements and attributes of winger Jordan Morris, midfielders Cristian Roldan and Luca de la Torre, defenders Tim Ream and DeAndre Yedlin, goalkeeper Matt Turner and coach Gregg Berhalter.
Many of the billboards gave nods to where the players lived. For example, Lasso talks about being blown away by Morris’s talent, followed by, “I’m sure you know all about being blown away when you’re from Seattle and all that.”
They all added Lasso’s wit and humor, and Ream’s billboard encouraged him to shine bright, but added: “There should be a warning before the tournaments to charge SPF and sunglasses to protect everyone from the Tim Ream beam.’
At least two billboards could be seen at the players’ schools. At El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California — Cristian Roldan’s alma mater — a sign read his hometown and how it is “the premier music capital for Mexican regional music in the country.”

For “keeper Matt Turner,” Lasso appeared outside Saint Joseph Regional High School in Bergen County, New Jersey holding a sign calling him a “teeny Turner” and noting how he “started playing football to stay in shape for basketball and baseball’.
In San Diego, the birthplace of de la Torre, Lasso noted the region’s famous residents: “They have a legendary skateboarder [Tony Hawk]a legendary children’s poet [Dr. Seuss]a legendary presenter [the fictitious Ron Burgundy] and of course a legendary footballer: Luca de la Torrific.’
DeAndre Yedlin – known for his eccentric haircuts – was known for his leadership “on the field and in the barber chair.”
Players weren’t the only ones to get the “Lasso treatment.” Coach Gregg Berhalter had a little fun with his name and how many “G’s” there are in his name, with the line, “I just know you and your extra ‘G’ will totally take those guys.”
The United States open their group match against Wales on Monday, November 21.
