US Soccer and Mexican Football Federation pull bid to host 2027 Women’s World Cup… shifting focus to winning bid for 2031 instead

US Soccer and the Mexican Soccer Federation have withdrawn their joint bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup. said Monday.

In a joint press release, the organizations said they will instead shift their efforts to bidding for the 2031 Women’s World Cup.

US Soccer and the Mexican Soccer Federation said this bid will be “historic” in calling for equal investment as the men’s tournament.

“Hosting a World Cup tournament is a huge undertaking – and if we have extra time to prepare, we can maximize its impact around the world,” said U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone.

“I am proud of our commitment to providing fair experiences for the players, fans and all our stakeholders. “By shifting our bid, we can host a record-breaking Women’s World Cup in 2031, which will help grow and raise the standard of women’s football both here at home and around the world.”

The United States already has several years of international soccer tournaments coming up, with the 2024 Copa America, the 2025 Club World Cup and the 2026 World Cup all set to take place in the United States. The 2026 World Cup will be jointly organized with Mexico and Canada.

The 2028 Olympics will also take place in Los Angeles, while the American women will compete in Paris this summer.

Ivar Sisniega, president of the Mexican Football Federation, added: “We are fully committed to organizing a memorable and historic Women’s World Cup that will benefit the players and fans. After careful analysis, we believe that pushing back our bid to 2031 will allow us to promote and build the most successful Women’s World Cup ever.”
