More than 15,000 Hyundai Venue cars have been recalled due to a serious technical malfunction.
In a statement, the federal government’s Department of Transportation said the car’s 2020 to 2022 model had a defect in the belt tensioner’s inflation mechanism — a component that automatically tightens seat belts in the event of an accident.
“Due to a manufacturing problem, the belt tensioner’s inflation mechanism may break when deployed in the event of an accident,” the department said.
The recall was issued for approximately 15,080 vehicles of the Hyundai Venue model (above)
The cars have a problem with the ‘belt pretensioner’ – a part that automatically tightens the seat belt in the event of an accident
“If the belt tensioner’s inflation mechanism breaks, metal fragments can be propelled at high speed towards the occupants of the vehicle and cause serious injury.”
Owners of the vehicle are requested to contact Hyundai to have the part inspected and repaired free of charge.
