The JM Smucker Company has issued a nationwide recall for cinnamon rolls and cheese danishes sold at Walmart.

The company initiated the recall on the following November 1 pieces of plastic were found in the packages.

The two recalled products are 16.5-ounce packages of cinnamon rolls and 16.5-ounce packages of cheese puffs – both Great Value brand.

A total of 1,602 cases of cinnamon rolls and 2,027 cases of cheese buns were recalled.

Each affected package contains 12 retail items, meaning the company has recalled more than 40,000 cinnamon rolls and pastries.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) completed the emergency product recall on November 19.

The organization called it a Class II: a recall that indicates a product has a low probability of causing serious injury or death.

“The health and safety of our customers is always our top priority,” Jacquelyn Cook, director of executive communications at Walmart, said in a statement to KSNT.

“A sales restriction was imposed on the affected products and they were removed from affected stores.”

Cook added that Walmart is currently working with “the supplier” in the investigation.

The recalled cinnamon rolls have UPC 078742201160 and the cheese buns have UPC 078742201177 on the packaging.

Both products have the same lot code: L092525200 269X.

The FDA has not released details about what consumers should do about the recalled Great Value brand products.

However, the government agency indicated that shoppers can often return the recalled products to stores for a full refund.

Customers who are unable to do so are advised to ‘dispose of the product properly’.

The government agency also advised buyers not to give recalled products to others, including animals.

The chemicals in plastic used to package food can cause damage if swallowed.

One thing that can cause serious damage is microplastics: pieces of plastic with a diameter of less than five millimeters.

These microplastics can cause serious health problems such as hormone disruption, weight gain, impaired reproductive health and cancer.

Chemicals in plastic have also been linked to premature birth and miscarriage, according to the researchers Anchenggy.

Common and less serious health problems you may experience after swallowing plastic include dizziness and headaches.

The JM Smucker Company made headlines in 2022 after recalling Jif peanut butter products due to a possible salmonella contamination.

The outbreak was linked to 12 states in the US and left 14 customers sick, two of whom were hospitalized.

A recent recall involving plastic or metal items involved more than 167,000 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat chicken due to contamination with metal fragments.

Other products recalled this month were pasture-fresh potato salad with yogurt and pasture-fresh potato salad with crème fraiche.

Lidl recalled both products from supermarkets because they were concerned they contained pieces of copper.

Officials from the Food Standard Agency (FSA) who published the publication allergy warning said: ‘The possible presence of copper makes these products unsafe to eat.’

Before the emergency recall, The JM Smucker Company stock price had risen 5.7 percent over the past year.

The company is expected to report its final fiscal quarterly results on November 26, ending in October 2024.
