Proceeds will go toward helping Mr. Maher and his surviving children heal and rebuild their lives.
The online fundraiser raised nearly $20,000 in one day.
“This is a real tragedy and we are trying to do everything we can to help the father and children at this devastating time,” Ms Maher’s brother Josh wrote online.
Sergeant Greg Price of the Burpengary Forensic Crash Unit told reporters on Saturday that the vehicle was traveling eastbound and had left the road before colliding with “several large trees.”
‘The vehicle suffered extensive damage as a result of the crash. “We are looking for witnesses to the crash or dashcam of the crash,” he said.
‘We are investigating what the driver’s actions were prior to the accident. Most people who called [on Friday] saw the crash, they were not witnesses.”
