A star University of Oregon football player has been arrested after allegedly killing a 46-year-old man in a horror crash.

Daylen Amir Austin, 19, was charged with a crime Monday night before police revealed grisly details about the incident.

Reported dispatch records showed that police were initially called about a stabbing about three miles from the university campus at 9:15 p.m., and the victim was found in the road with a large laceration to his neck.

A hammer was also reportedly found near the victim, who has not yet been identified, and police said their “complex” investigation is still ongoing.

Just over two hours after the collision, Austin was arrested at an apartment around 11:45 p.m.

Investigators have not yet explained why the 911 call reporting the incident described it as a stabbing, saying only that the situation is “complex.”

Austin, a second-year defensive running back, was arraigned at the Lane County Jail on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old did not enter a plea at his arraignment and Judge Kamala Shugar granted him parole, reports said The Oregonian.

Officials say they are still investigating to gather evidence in the death, with a final charging decision to be made by the Lane County District Attorney’s Office.

In a statement after the charges were filed, Oregon’s football program said it was “aware of the incident.”

The team has not commented further, saying it is “awaiting additional information.”

Before the crash, neighbors said KEZI that they heard a vehicle driving loudly through their neighborhood.

“Around 10 to 9, I was driving a car around the neighborhood, up and down, which sounded like Polk and then up and down Fourth, and then it sounded like it was behind us,” said neighbor Seth Lockard.

“It sounded like he was going in circles for about 10 to 15 minutes, and it went very quickly.”

Locals said their street is notorious for speeding drivers who want to avoid a nearby main road, and neighbor Anthony Sharpy said blood remained at the scene of the accident for hours.

“When I drove by the next morning, there was still just puddles of blood and some gloves on the street, so I put some hydrogen peroxide on the blood and put 5-gallon buckets of water on it to try to wash it away because people are walking their dogs out there, there’s flies and birds flying around,” he said.

“We just didn’t want to see the blood on the streets.”
