Ukrainian forces ‘running low or rationing ammunition’: White House warning as aid package continues to be blocked by Republicans

Ukrainian troops are starting to run out of ammunition as a massive US war aid package requested by President Joe Biden continues to be blocked by Republicans in Congress, a top White House official said today.

“We are increasingly hearing reports of Ukrainian forces rationing or even running out of ammunition on the front lines,” as Russian forces attack from the ground and air, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said.

He said both US allies and adversaries were “monitoring this closely.”

Sullivan urged the Republican-led U.S. House to follow the Senate’s lead and quickly pass the multibillion-dollar aid package for Ukraine’s fight against Russia.

‘We cannot afford to wait any longer. Every day comes at the expense of the people of Ukraine and the national security interests of the United States of America,” Sullivan added.

‘The stakes are getting higher and higher. The cost of inaction is also increasing every day,” he said.

It comes as Republicans criticized Secretary of State David Cameron for his “immature” comparison of Republican lawmakers against sending more aid to Ukraine for the “weak” reconciliation with Hitler in the 1930s.

Lord Cameron implored Republicans not to obstruct additional military aid packages for Ukraine, equating such a move with Hitler’s appeasement ahead of the invasion of Poland that sparked the Second World War.

The Senate has approved a $95 billion foreign aid package that will send more than $60 billion to Ukraine and $14 billion to Israel.

However, it faces an uncertain future in the House of Representatives after Speaker Mike Johnson said he has no plans to put it up for a vote.

The former prime minister called out the Republican Party in a sensational op-ed in The Hill.

He said: ‘I don’t want us to show the weakness we showed against Hitler in the 1930s.’

Republicans shot back at the foreign secretary, saying Britain has not paid its fair share of aid to Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

American taxpayers have transferred an estimated $113 billion since the conflict began two years ago.

‘That’s hilarious. David Cameron can kiss my great Majorie Taylor Greene, who is against sending extra money to Ukraine, DailyMail.com told in response.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., called Lord Cameron’s statement “laughable” and added that he has “a rich disdain for such an immature opinion.”

Republicans opposed to sending more aid to Ukraine worry about signing a “blank check” without clear benchmarks for ending the war.

Republican Mike Waltz, R-Fla., told DailyMail.com that it would be “nice” if “our British friends would pay more attention to demanding that the rest of Europe contribute its fair share, instead of demanding that the United States Signing a Blank Check’.

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, wondered, “Where is Britain in all of this?”

This weekend, Donald Trump caused chaos after suggesting at a campaign event on Saturday that Russia could “do whatever they want” to NATO members that don’t pay their annual dues – which amounts to two percent of GDP per country.

Of the 31 countries in NATO, only 11 met the required two percent of GDP financing requirement by 2023.

Roy said that because the United States has spent more than Europe sending lethal aid to Ukraine, he will not sit idly by while Britain tries to “lecture us.”

“We are not afraid to do what we need to do when necessary around the world, but continuing to fund and perpetuate endless conflict, what we have been doing in this country for over 20 years is not in our national security interests. And I do not believe this is in the interest of the people of Ukraine,” Roy told DailyMail.com.

He says Biden should define a clear “mission” in the war, after which the U.S. can rightly approve additional funding.

“The government has no clear mission,” he said.

In 2023, the US spent $860 billion on defense spending, contributing 3.49 percent of its GDP to military initiatives, well above the two percent threshold set by NATO.

The White House called Trump’s words “terrible and unhinged” and argued that they “promoted dangerous chaos.” Other critics said his rhetoric was “music to Putin’s ears.”

But allies of the former president praised his threats and said they should be taken seriously.
