Ukraine-bashing Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed that Jack Teixeira is being persecuted for being “white, Christian and anti-war.”
The Republican congresswoman, who represents Georgia’s 14th district, launched an unhinged social media diatribe attacking the FBI for bringing the case to court.
Greene took to Twitter to praise the 21-year-old for “telling the truth” about Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The leaked files detail possible arms shipments to Ukraine, as well as the number of foreign intelligence agents in the country.
Greene, a 48-year-old Republican lawmaker, wants to immediately end all US aid to Ukraine
Jack Teixeira, 21, appeared in court in Boston earlier on Friday to face charges of illegally leaking classified US intelligence
FBI agents arrested Teixeira Thursday at his mother’s home in North Dighton, Massachusetts
“Jake Teixeira is white, male, Christian and anti-war,” she wrote, misspelling his first name. “That makes him an enemy of the Biden regime.”
“He told the truth about troops on the ground in Ukraine and much more,” the 48-year-old added. “Ask yourself who is the real enemy?”
Greene claimed that the Biden administration and the Pentagon “have been caught lying about the war they are financing and fighting against Russia.”
She said the White House was planning to tighten social media regulation after the leak of what she called “full government censorship.”
Her string of social posts came as the member of the National Guard appeared in court in Boston, Massachusetts on two charges of leaking classified information.
Greene, a proponent of ending US military aid to Ukraine, has repeatedly echoed pro-Moscow talking points since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
She has made the false claim that the Ukrainian government is being overrun by Nazis and accused Kiev of embezzling Western financial aid.
The congressman argues that US aid, currently about $77 billion according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, should be spent on fighting illegal immigration.
She has demanded that the US government enforce tighter controls and investigate where the money is going.
“We should be forging peace in Ukraine, not funding war and getting ripped off by Zelensky and his cronies,” Greene added, echoing Moscow’s stance on ending the conflict.
But US troops, led by Brigadier General Garrick Harmon, have been in Ukraine since last year to monitor arms shipments.
One of the leaked files contained US concerns about how Ukraine’s arms supplies were becoming depleted
Greene has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of embezzling Western financial aid without evidence
Earlier this week, a gruesome video appeared online showing a Wagner fighter decapitating a Ukrainian soldier
But Mike Lawler, a Republican representing New York’s 17th district, criticized Greene’s support for Teixeira, calling him “an enemy of America.”
“Leaking classified documents, especially these sensitive documents, is a crime and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Lawler said.
“His behavior is indefensible and should be universally condemned,” he added.
Greene boasted that he had voted against further aid to the Ukrainian military despite evidence of war crimes committed by Vladimir Putin’s forces.
A gruesome video emerged online earlier this week showing a pro-Kremlin Wagner mercenary beheading a Ukrainian soldier.
UN investigators have also found evidence of deliberate attacks on civilians, rape and torture by the Russian military.
