Trump’s tearful executive assistant says Melania was ‘responsible’ and reveals details of their ‘special relationship’ as Stormy Daniels story broke

Donald Trump’s former executive assistant has revealed that Melania Trump was “absolutely the one in charge” in her marriage to Donald Trump.

In dramatic testimony from Trump’s hush money trial, Madeleine Westerhout said the former first couple had a “special relationship” based on “mutual respect.”

When he was president, Trump called his wife from the Oval Office and asked her to look down from a window in the White House residence.

And when he left in a helicopter, he would call her to “check in.”

Westerhout testified in a Manhattan courtroom shortly after Stormy Daniels, the former porn star who was paid $130,000 by Trump’s former “fixer” Michael Cohen.

Trump denies 34 charges of falsifying company records to cover up an alleged affair with Daniels.

Westerhout broke down in tears on the witness stand as she also recounted how making indiscreet comments at a dinner with reporters led to her quitting her job at the White House.

As Trump watched from the defense table, she answered questions about the former first couple’s marriage and how it had been affected by Daniels’ claims.

She said nothing seemed to have changed in the Trumps’ relationship.

Westerhout said: “I believe they have a relationship of mutual respect. I just thought their relationship was very special. He cares a lot about her opinion. There was no one else who could put him in his place.

“He was my boss, but she was definitely the one in charge. I remember finding their relationship very special. They laughed a lot when she came into the Oval Office.”

She continued, “He would occasionally tell me to call her and let her know it was too late, just like any other marriage.

‘She texted me: ‘It’s dinner time, when is my husband coming home?’.’

Westerhout told the court that sometimes she would look into the Oval Office and see Trump on the phone.

She said: “I was able to find out he was on the phone with Mrs. Trump. He said (to Mrs. Trump) honey, come to the window (in the home). He said come to the window and (they) waved to each other.

“As he was boarding Marine One on the South Lawn, he called Mrs. Trump and said, honey, I’m going on board. I thought it was funny. Of course she knows his schedule, but he wanted to check in.”

Westerhout called working for Trump ‘great’.

She told the court: ‘He never made me feel like I didn’t deserve that job, especially in an office full of older men.

‘He was a very good boss who respected me and my work. I found him very pleasant to work for.’

She described having to leave her job at the White House after attending what she thought was an off-record dinner.

“I said things I shouldn’t have said,” Westerhout told the court. ‘It ultimately cost me my job and I deeply regret my youthful indiscretion. But I learned a lot from my experience and have grown tremendously since then.”

She wiped away tears as she talked about the experience, telling how she wrote a book to “process what I had been through.”

“I wanted to document for myself and my family the incredible experience I had working in the White House,” she said.

She wanted to share “the man I came to know” with the American people.

She said of Trump, “I don’t think he’s being treated fairly and I wanted to tell that story.”

Westerhout also guided the jurors through Trump’s contact list in early 2017.

It included submissions for Cohen and David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer, who prosecutors say helped the Trump campaign reward people with potentially damaging stories to keep quiet before the 2016 election.
