President-elect Donald Trump’s team has warned Republican senators that they will face primaries financed by billionaire Elon Musk if they vote against his Cabinet nominees.
According to ABC Washington correspondent Jonathan Karl, a Trump adviser said, “If you’re on the wrong side of the ballot, you’re buying yourself a primary. That’s it. And there’s a guy named Elon Musk who’s going to finance it.”
‘The president can choose his cabinet. No one else,” the advisor added.
The ominous threat comes after Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Matt Gaetz, withdrew his nomination after admitting that a slew of sordid sexual misconduct claims were a distraction for the newly elected president.
The former Republican lawmaker is facing mounting allegations of sexual misconduct involving a minor and use of illegal drugs.
Gatez’s withdrawal came after the House of Representatives Ethics Committee stalled on releasing a report detailing allegations against him.
Gaetz has already resigned from the House of Representatives before this term, but was re-elected to Congress, which will be sworn in on January 3.
Trump recently stunned Washington when he plucked celebrities and prominent figures from cable TV to fill his Cabinet and administration.

It comes as Trump’s nominee for attorney general Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination following allegations of sexual misconduct.
In doing so, he ignores the more traditional candidates favored by the political establishment.
On Tuesday, Trump selected famous television doctor Dr. Oz as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, sending shockwaves through the health care industry and federal regulators.
Trump also raised alarm among national security leaders in Washington after selecting Fox and Friends host Pete Hegseth as his defense secretary.
He also nominated Robert F. Kennedy as his Secretary of Health and Human Services, a decision that sent shockwaves through the public health sector given Kennedy’s reputation as an anti-vaxxer.
Trump also officially appointed Tesla CEO Musk to head the newly created Department of Government Efficiency alongside former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
The president-elect pledged that the pair would help him “dismantle” the government bureaucracy and “cut excessive regulations, reduce wasteful spending and restructure federal agencies.”
