Former President Donald Trump wants to mandate an “endurance” test for presidential hopefuls, raising the stakes on Nikki Haley’s call for a mental competency test.
Trump, 76, whose White House doctor said in 2018 he would benefit from a low-carb diet and “a routine exercise regimen,” said the physical component should be in addition to the mental test.
Trump boasted that he passed his own mental acuity test while in office. It was later revealed assessment asked respondents questions as basic as distinguishing an elephant from a camel.
“ANYONE running for the office of President of the United States must agree to take a full and complete mental competency test at the same time (or before!) as a test that would show you are physically capable of doing the job,” Trump posted on his Truth Social site.

Trump’s proposal comes days after White House physician Colonel Kevin O’Connor declared Biden a “healthy” and “vigorous” 80-year-old fit for office after his examination. Annual Physical Thursday at Walter Reed.
The exam did not include a cognitive test despite calls from Republicans amid their penchant for gaffes and the occasional misstatement. The exam revealed that Biden had a chest injury that was sent for a cancer screening.
Haley, 51, launched her presidential campaign with a call for politicians over the age of 75, who he said are past their ‘prime’, to undergo mental competency tests.
‘When people send someone to Washington, they need to know that they are at the top of their game. That’s why I think those competency tests are important,” he told Fox & Friends last week. “We can’t have someone like Joe Biden, who is asleep at the wheel, and have China sitting there threatening us and asking us if he really knows what’s going on,” she said.

Interviewer Chris Wallace told him: “I took the [cognitive] exam too, when I heard you passed it. It is not the most difficult test. He shows a picture and says, ‘what’s that,’ and it’s an elephant.’
