Trump allies threaten to undermine GOP hardliner Bob Good’s re-election bid over his Ron DeSantis endorsement: Ousted Freedom Caucus member Marjorie Taylor Greene leads charge against ‘MAGA traitor’

  • Rep. Good is the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, which expelled Greene
  • Good supported Ron DeSantis for president before switching to Trump
  • He was also notably one of eight who voted to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy last year
  • The Republican Party spent a whopping $3.1 million on its 2020 election efforts

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Bob Good could lose his seat in Congress in November as some powerful Republicans have turned against the Virginian.

Good, who initially supported Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election, later pivoted and endorsed Trump shortly after the governor dropped out of the race on Sunday.

However, the damage to his relations in the former president’s orbit had already been done, and several former allies are vowing revenge and working behind the scenes to thwart his re-election efforts.

“Bob Good is an angry, disloyal MAGA traitor who was caught on camera trashing President Trump and doing everything he could to defeat President Trump,” posted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was fired from House Freedom last year Caucus, on X ‘Bob Good is NOT GOOD and cannot be trusted.’

The Georgia Republican then endorsed Good’s main challenger, John McGuire, a former Navy SEAL, who she said has “been by President Donald J. Trump’s side since he came off the escalator.”

“John McGuire will help make America great again, and never has Trump RINO Bob Good lied to the people,” her post continued.

And the Trump team also noticed Good’s lack of loyalty.

“Bob Good won’t be eligible again when we’re done with him,” Chris LaCivita, a Republican strategist and Trump campaign manager, told the Southern Virginia-based Cardinal News.

Other GOP members also supported McGuire.

Republican Reps. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, Morgan Luttrell of Texas and Ryan Zinke of Montana — all former SEALs — have endorsed McGuire.

Van Orden told Punchbowl News that he is supporting McGuire because Good has added to the chaos within the Republican ranks of the House of Representatives.

“To fix something, you can’t just burn it down,” Van Orden said. “This man has been throwing bombs around, and look what we’ve accomplished. The answer is nothing.’

Good notably voted last year to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, one of eight lawmakers who turned against the California Republican.

“The people of Virginia’s 5th District like what I do. I kept my word,” Good told Punchbowl News. “I’ve been the kind of consistent conservative they elected me to be.”

Despite the noise from his opponents, Good’s Freedom Caucus allies have been vocal in their support of the Virginian.

“I will do whatever it takes to help Bob Good,” South Carolina Rep. Ralph Norman told Punchbowl News. “Every fundraiser, we will go the extra mile.”
