A talented young singer who died in a car accident had just moved home with a friend and was about to start studying at the university.

Odetta Maxwell, 25, who found fame in the unearthed triple j, was driving alone on the Port Wakefield Highway, just north of Adelaide, around 11am on Tuesday when her car crashed and rolled into nearby bushland.

He managed to get out of the car before emergency services arrived, but his condition rapidly deteriorated.

She was airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital but sadly died of her injuries on Wednesday.

His sister Isobel Vlahiotis said that his beloved ‘O’, as she was affectionately known, ‘lived many lives and experiences in her short 25 years’.

Ms Vlahiotis told Daily Mail Australia that Ms Maxwell had traveled the world, visiting Mexico, the US, Japan, Thailand, Croatia and Belgium before her 23rd birthday.

She said her sister was extremely passionate about mental health, indigenous rights, politics, and “basically everything she did.”

“Odetta would give you the shoes on her feet and walk barefoot by your side to see you in less pain,” she said.

‘She was a shining star and our family cannot believe how much support we are receiving from our community and the kind words and memories they are sharing.

Ms Vlahiotis said her devastated parents, who live remotely, are severely disabled and were struggling with mounting bills after traveling to Adelaide to be at Ms Maxwell’s bedside before she died.

She said her parents were in car accidents when they were younger and they defied the odds and miraculously survived.

‘My mother was revived 5 times when she was 8 years old after crossing the street and being hit by a car. And my dad hit a stobie pole at 37 and had a 2% chance of survival.

“My sister was literally a miracle and it’s tragic that a car accident took her from us.”

Ms Maxwell’s death marks the 11th life lost on South Australian roads in 2023, up from four at this time last year.
