Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish WITHDRAW from England squad for matches with Ukraine and Scotland after injuries

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jack Grealish have been forced to withdraw from the England squad following injuries.

Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold, 24, underwent medical tests on Monday morning after the replacement captain limped off Sunday’s game with Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday.

Alexander-Arnold felt his hamstring muscle and was substituted, visibly in pain as he left the field in the second half.

Manchester City winger Grealish, 27, missed Saturday’s 5-1 win over Fulham with a minor thigh injury and has subsequently also withdrawn from England.

While it is unclear how serious Alexander-Arnold’s injury is at this stage, it was decided between the club doctors and England that it was prudent for him to withdraw from the upcoming games against Ukraine and Scotland.

Jurgen Klopp said after the win over Villa and the good performance: ‘It would have been cool if Trent hadn’t felt his hamstring. We will know more after a scan. Let’s hope it’s not serious.’

Alexander-Arnold had been picked as a midfielder in Gareth Southgate’s squad and was said to be considering playing in central areas during the game against Ukraine.

Winger Grealish did not play against Fulham after a ‘minor thigh injury’, but is not expected to be sidelined for too long.

England will play their final Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine in the Polish city of Wroclaw on Saturday before taking on Scotland’s Auld Enemy in a friendly at Hampden Park next Tuesday.

A statement from the England camp read: ‘Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been banned from England’s games in September.

The pair reported to St. George’s Park on Monday but have since withdrawn from the Three Lions squad following checks for injuries sustained prior to camp.

All other players are present as planned, except for Kieran Trippier who arrives on Wednesday due to a personal commitment.

“No further calls are scheduled.”
