Police homicide officers investigate the mysterious death of a two-month-old boy in a suburban home.

Chance Ford was found unconscious at a property on Swamp Gum Place in Alfredton, west of Ballarat, after 9pm on Saturday.

Neighbors went to investigate after hearing screams from the house and walked inside to find the lifeless baby on the living room floor.

A neighbor heard the family’s older children playing outside prior to the incident, followed by screaming as the child became unresponsive.

She saw the parents leaving the house in a state of distress, so she went in to help and found the little boy on the living room floor.

“I went to investigate and the little boy was just lying on the living room floor,” a local resident told The Courier.

“The neighbor helped resuscitate him, but unfortunately the paramedics came and couldn’t get him back.”

‘It was just terrible. As a mother it was heartbreaking… He was just a beautiful little boy. It’s so sad.’

They attempted to revive him before emergency services arrived and took over, but the child died at the scene.

“The mother was just screaming that something had happened, and just crying and screaming,” family friend Angela Walker told 7 News.

‘It was quite confrontational, his father was at the front quite upset.’

“I’m not sure where his mother was, but I imagine she was quite upset wherever she was.”

Chance’s family had only lived in the house for about a year before the tragedy.

Other neighbors said a woman started knocking on doors asking for help around 9 p.m.

A man told Daily Mail Australia she knocked on his door said she had an argument with her boyfriend.

“She had no shoes, no phone, no bag, jeans and a shirt and it didn’t appear she had her wallet on her,” he said.

‘She seemed scared and wanted to know if she could use my phone. I didn’t really want to give her my phone, so I said I’d call her a taxi.’

He gave her a glass of water and ordered her a taxi to nearby Soldier’s Hill, saying the woman sat on the couch and didn’t say much.

The taxi arrived about ten minutes later and he called the police.

Police arrived to collect his statement at around 11.30pm and said they wanted to speak to her in relation to a murder investigation.

There is no evidence that the woman had anything to do with Chance’s death.

Chance’s parents are cooperating with police and no arrests have been made.

Police are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine how the little boy died.
