Tragedy as body found during search for missing Briton, 18, after she disappeared while swimming with friends off Dutch beach

A body has been found at a Dutch beach in the search for a British teenager who went missing while swimming with her friends.

Four swimmers got into trouble on Sunday evening around 8:30 PM while swimming in the North Sea off the Hague seaside resort of Scheveningen.

Three people were rescued, but the fourth, reportedly an 18-year-old woman from the United Kingdom, was not found.

Rescue workers said there was little hope of her being found alive after a two-hour search to no avail.

Although the investigation is still ongoing, it is believed the person found last night is likely to be the missing British teenager, local media.

It is believed that the three people who were rescued on Sunday tried to save the teenager, but got into trouble themselves.

An eyewitness who saw the drama unfold said that two of the boys had injuries to their legs and were covered in blood.

They added that an elderly woman was present who appeared to be the mother of one of the children who “panicked and screamed.”

The local resident said the boys had no chance to save the teenager because the water was too rough and impassable. “The boys barely survived,” they said.

It is believed that the boats were injured when they hit the rocky pier that forms the harbour that separates the beach of IJduin and Scheveningen in The Hague.

According to the fire department of The Hague, the group was near the Southern Harbour Head, a green lighthouse and popular tourist attraction on the southern pier.

Regio15 reports that a body was found at sea last night and that a rescue boat has been called in to recover the body.

The police were also on site when the report of the find came in around 7 p.m.
