The family of an 11-year-old boy who died while cycling home from school have paid tribute to their “beloved son”.
Gurmantar Singh Gill was on his way home from school in Buderim on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Tuesday afternoon when he crashed into a bus.
Gurmantar suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to Sunshine Coast Hospital, where he later died.
His funeral was held on Friday. His family said it was with deep sadness and a heavy heart that they had to lose their beloved son.
“Although Gurmantar Singh Gill was with us only a short time, his spirit touched the hearts of all who knew him,” a statement said.
“We come together to remember the joy and love he brought into our lives, even in the midst of our sorrow.”
The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident which occurred at approximately 3.45pm when a bus travelling along Jingellic Drive, near Karawatha Drive, struck the cyclist.
The driver, a 60-year-old man, was not injured and is helping police.
The investigation is ongoing and witnesses or people with relevant vision are urged to contact police.
Gurmantar Gill, 11, was a talented golfer who wanted to turn pro when he grew up.
