Tottenham SHOULD have had a penalty for Leandro Trossard’s challenge on Dejan Kulusevski, claims Michael Dawson – just moments before Bukayo Saka doubled Arsenal’s lead in north London derby
Tottenham should have been awarded a penalty just before Arsenal scored their second goal, says Michael Dawson.
Dejan Kulusevski tripped and fell after being clipped by Leandro Trossard before James Maddison fell under a challenge from Declan Rice.
Nothing was given and Arsenal counter-attacked viciously, with Bukayo Saka cutting past Ben Davies to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Craig Dawson believes Kulusevski’s fall should have resulted in a penalty, but the striker was ‘too honest’ and tried to stay on his feet.
‘Big shout. Didn’t see it coming. It’s a penalty for me,” Dawson told Sky Sports.

‘If he goes down straight away [it would have been a penalty]. I think it’s the fact that he takes two or three steps and tries to be honest and stay on his feet. Whether he thinks he made the mistake, it is Trossard’s first contact that makes that happen.’
After Kulusevski tumbled, the ball rolled towards Maddison and he went down after a stern Rice challenge, but Dawson doesn’t think that was a foul.
It was a crucial moment in the first half, which ended with Arsenal leading 3-0 at Spurs for the first time since 1959.
After Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg headed into his own goal to give Spurs the lead, Micky van de Ven thought he had found the equalizer but was ruled out by VAR for offside.
Saka made it 2-0 with a blistering counter-attack and Kai Havertz gave Arsenal a big lead before half-time.
