Tottenham fans criticise Eric Dier for ‘horrible miscue’ before Brentford’s second goal

Fans criticized Eric Dier for the Tottenham defender’s skewed clearance ahead of Brentford’s second goal in their 2-2 draw on Boxing Day.

The England international fired a left-footed clearance straight for a corner under minimal pressure, which came before Ivan Toney doubled the hosts’ lead.

Toney added Brentford’s second of the day from the resulting corner, turning at the far post for Christian Norgaard.

Fans were quick to vent their frustration with Dier, suggesting the goal was “inevitable” after his mistake.

‘As soon as Dier shot for a corner, it was guaranteed to be a goal and it was always, always, always going to be Toney. Spursy,’ one fan tweeted.

I’m so sick of Eric Dier. So fed up,’ added another.

‘As long as Eric Dier starts at Spurs, the trophy drought will continue. No one even close to him on that mistake. It is a catastrophe waiting to happen.

Supporters expressed disappointment with Dier as Brentford took a 2-0 lead

Fortunately for Dier, Spurs secured a point after coming back from two goals soon after.

Harry Kane scored on his return to league action after missing a crucial penalty in England’s World Cup quarter-final loss against France, before Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored an equalizer.

However, former England international Matthew Upson called Dier’s clearance “horrible” at the time.

Fortunately for Dier, Spurs sealed a 2-2 draw after coming from two goals down.

Dier has featured in all of Tottenham’s Premier League games this season, and the central defender earned himself a call-up to the England World Cup squad.

The 28-year-old played twice for Gareth Southgate’s Qatar side as a substitute.
