Today, presenter Karl Stefanovic ‘giggles’ during mandatory training for the national fire brigade after arriving late – but he had a perfectly reasonable excuse

Today, presenter Karl Stefanovic arrived late this week at a mandatory training for the national fire brigade.

The 49-year-old was reportedly more than half an hour late for mandatory 9am safety training on Wednesday.

After getting shaken up, Karl, who is known for his larrikin antics, was seen giggling intermittently during the session with other Channel Nine staff, according to The Daily Telegraph.

But the TV host had a very good reason for being late, as he finished his hosting duties for the Today show at 9am and was forced to race to the meeting.

Karl and other journalists must complete the session to access the fire front during the wildfire season.

It comes after the Today show host was recently criticized by fans for his field coverage of the aftermath of the Malaysia Airlines security incident.

He appeared live at Sydney Airport earlier this month in response to the security threat that caused flight MH122 to flip after passenger Muhammad Ali Arif, 55, a dual Pakistani-Australian citizen, began uttering “threats” to passengers and flight crew.

Karl made viewers just as nervous as he began his field interview with two aviation experts and stumbled over his words several times.

Viewers were merciless in their criticism of Karl’s impromptu reporting style and got down to business MediaSpy forums to roast him.

“Karl doesn’t seem to be adding much at the airport this morning. Looks like he’s fumbling over his words and pretty sweaty,” one viewer snapped.

Fortunately, as the morning progressed, Karl seemed to gain his composure, giving viewers a better understanding of the terrifying ordeal.

A Malaysia Airlines plane was forced to return to Sydney earlier this month after a passenger uttered a crazed diatribe about Allah.

Dramatic video showed the man calling himself a ‘slave of Allah’ before taunting other passengers to repeat that they were also ‘slaves of Allah’.

He was arrested at Sydney Airport and spent the night in custody.
