A style professional has listed the fashion trends she thinks everyone will find ‘ugly’ in five to ten years.
Ellie from the US says people will look back with regret on ‘micro trends’ such as denim maxi skirts, chunky sneakers, slicked back hair and biker shorts.
Many agreed with the 20-year-old’s popular looks, but some were quick to defend their favorite styles.
Firstly, Ellie said as she continues to delve into denim maxi skirts, she’s confident it won’t be long before we find them ‘ugly’ again.
“My first reaction when I first saw one not worn on a model was, ‘What the hell, Grandma?’ Eventually I’ll feel like this again,” she said in a TikTok video.

A fashion fan has listed the trend she predicts everyone will find ugly in a few years, starting with denim maxi skirts: “Everything that was ugly will be ugly again,” she said.
Ellie said the same goes for cargo maxi skirts (left) and anything cargo style. She ‘ruffled some feathers’ by nailing the very popular slicked back hair look (right)
“I think we can all agree that if we saw a maxi denim skirt two years ago, we would all think it was super ugly, and I live by this rule: whatever was ugly will be ugly again.”
Similarly, Ellie said the same goes for cargo maxi skirts and anything cargo-style, saying people will eventually find the trend “weird.”
The next trend on Ellie’s list, which she said would “ruffle some feathers,” was the slicked back hair look.
“I don’t necessarily think this one will ever be ugly, but I just don’t think it will be as cute as it is right now,” she explained.
“It used to be all about sexy, messy Victoria Secret bombshell hair and eventually we’ll go back to that.”
Ellie said she can’t wait until the ruffled clothing trend is ‘dead’.
Ellie said she can’t wait for the ruffle clothing trend (left) to be ‘dead’ and predicts people will start to see crochet tops (right) as ‘childish’.
The fashionista slammed tops and dresses with multiple cutouts. “I’m so sick of a top with eight different triangles and all this negative space in it, I don’t understand it,” she said
“It’s been so overdone in recent years that it looks so cheap and now screams fast fashion,” she said,
‘I can’t wait for it to be over, I think it’s so ugly now, I’m just waiting for everyone else to notice.’
According to Ellie, clothing with mesh details was something that was big a few years ago but is already starting to fade away and she didn’t like crochet clothing.
‘I’m actually really into crocheting at the moment. “I think in five or 10 years we’ll look back and think that was a bit childish,” she said.

Ellie wasn’t a fan of chunky accessories like sneakers and jewelry: “I think we’re starting to enter this very streamlined fashion era and that chunk, it doesn’t go with that.”
Her latest trend was biker shorts with the text ‘was ugly, will be ugly again’. ‘Don’t be personally offended, because my opinion is completely irrelevant, but I’m always right, so we’ll see’
“I liked this a lot, like it’s cool, it’s sexy – no, it’s not, it looks cheap.”

‘Don’t be personally offended, because my opinion is completely irrelevant. “I’m a zero with no qualifications, but I’m always right, so we’ll see,” she joked.
Ellie’s clip has been viewed more than 3.3 million times and divided reactions among users, many of whom agreed with her controversial opinions.
‘I’m so tired of ruffles and it’s basically on every item when you shop plus sizes. It’s UNFORTUNABLE,” one woman said.
“I agree that drawstring ruffles are coming,” another agreed, while a third wrote: “2023 slick back= 2013 sock bun.”
“Maxi denim skirts will never be a vibe,” one user replied.
“Cutouts have ruined so many potentially good pieces,” one person added.
However, some weren’t so convinced with one statement: ‘I don’t think black mesh tops will be out of style anytime soon’.
“Biker shorts and a very loose shirt are a great combination,” a second commented.
‘Crochet??!! Crochet has been a thing for decades,” someone else commented, and another argued, “I ALWAYS stick to chunky shoes.”
