The Who announce their first UK tour in SIX years, featuring rock veterans accompanied by a full orchestra as they promise to “take our music to new heights”.

The Who have announced their first UK tour in almost six years, and the band will be accompanied by a full orchestra when it kicks off later this year.

The mod icons, who headlined their first tour in 1962, will tour the UK from July 6-23, releasing tickets for the next series of shows from February 3.

The new concert list includes a return to Edinburgh – 40 years after their last performance in the Scottish capital – and a show in Derby, where they last performed in 1966.

Hull, Edinburgh, London, Derby, Badminton, Durham, St Helens and Brighton will also welcome the band, who will be backed by a full orchestra as they perform their back catalog of hits.

Confirming the tour, singer Roger Daltrey said: “Having not toured the UK for six years, it’s great that at this point in our careers we get the chance to go places that aren’t on the usual touring map. , Edinburgh Castle and the Derby, as well as the other cities in the country we haven’t been to in decades will make this very special to me.

“This opportunity will give our UK Who fans the chance to hear our current show which, with the addition of an orchestra, takes our music to new heights.”

In addition to a full orchestra, the rock veterans will join special guests UB40 with Ali Campbell for some of their scheduled shows.

Guitarist Pete Townshend added: “Roger initially christened this tour with an orchestra ‘Moving Forward!’ I love it. It’s what we both want to do. Keep it up with new classical Music of the Who performed in exciting new ways.

‘Taking risks has nothing to lose. I’m really looking forward to bringing this show to the UK.’

The set will touch on every milestone of his 60-year career, including the rock opera Tommy and music from the riotous 1973 album Quadrophenia, which was subsequently made into a hit movie.

In 2022 the band toured the United States with The Who Hits Back tour, during which some of the most important orchestral groups in the country shared the stage.

They will release The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley on March 24.
