The Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly be larger than its predecessor and feature magnetic Joy-Con controllers
Another day, another Nintendo Switch 2 rumor. However, this comes from a reliable source.
Spotted by EurogamerSpanish gaming publication Vandal reports that according to several accessory manufacturers, the Nintendo Switch 2 will feature Joy-Con controllers that connect magnetically to the console. If this is true, it would mean that both the controllers and the Switch unit itself would undergo a significant change, avoiding the need for that rather fiddly rail connection system.
If you don’t know the source, know that Vandal has a proven track record on Nintendo Switch rumors. It was true regarding numerous Nintendo Switch OLED features that it also heard from accessory makers ahead of the upgraded console’s official reveal in 2021. So while we must emphasize that these are not official details, they do come from a source that has been accurate in the past used to be. .
In addition to this new magnetic connectivity for the Joy-Con controllers, Vandal also mentions that the Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly be larger than the original 2017 console, but not as large as a Steam Deck. This matches previous Nintendo Switch 2 rumors, via Bloombergthat Nintendo’s next console could have an 8-inch LCD screen.
Finally, Vandal claims that the excellent Nintendo Switch Pro Controller will be compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. No mention was made of a potential successor to the Pro controller, nor is it clear whether the original Joy-Con controllers will be wirelessly compatible with the new comfort.
Personally, I hope the reports about magnetically connected Joy-Con controllers are accurate. I keep my Nintendo Switch OLED under my TV, so it’s a pain to remove it from its place when I want to slide out the Joy-Con controllers for multiplayer or games that rely on them, like Ring Fit Adventure And Nintendo Switch Sports.
Additionally, and this is pure speculation, it could indicate that the Joy-Con controllers for the Switch 2 could be revised and upgraded. The Joy-Con are known for falling flat due to their poor build quality and tendency to develop stick drift. These problems can be solved with sturdier, higher quality construction and the use of Hall effect sticks. Although we won’t know for sure until we receive official announcements and details from Nintendo themselves.
