SATC fans brand Carrie ‘toxic, horrid, flawed and insufferable’ and insist she ‘monopolises every conversation’ as unearthed clip goes viral weeks after 90s show hit US Netflix

Sex And The City viewers were left furious over an unearthed clip from the show, which led to main character Carrie Bradshaw being widely panned.

After the hit show dropped on Netflix earlier this year, Twitter was flooded with opinions from both novice viewers and longtime fans, especially about its divisive protagonist, played by Sarah Jessica Parker.

Earlier this week, Netflix’s Twitter account shared a clip from 2003’s Season 6, Episode 7 – called The Post-It Always Sticks Twice – with the caption: ‘In 2003, Carrie Bradshaw said ‘Paper Covers Rock’ and everyone everywhere screamed. ‘

In the scene, Carrie arrives at her favorite coffee shop, fresh from being dumped by her boyfriend Jack Berger via a Post-it note, where Charlotte, played by Kristin Davies, announces her engagement, though Carrie turns the conversation to her own news.

Twitter was soon flooded with comments about Carrie’s behavior, with fans of the show calling the character “toxic, horrible, flawed and insufferable,” while others noted her insistence on “monopolizing every conversation.”

Twitter was quickly flooded with comments about Carrie’s behavior, with fans of the show calling the character “toxic, horrible, flawed and insufferable,” while others noted that she insists on “monopolizing every conversation.”

The sixth season of Sex And The City begins with Carrie’s difficult relationship with Berger, whom she meets through her publishing company.

The show depicts his struggle with her success, which leads to several arguments, before the iconic episode where he leaves a Post-it note on her computer with the words, “I’m sorry, I can’t do it, don’t hate me” to to end their romance.

Her dumping coincides with her best friend Charlotte York’s engagement, after she split from Harry Goldenblatt before reuniting and him popping the question with an engagement ring based on Richard Burton’s Elizabeth Taylor ring.

The scene shared by Netflix shows Carrie arriving to announce the breakup by saying, “Boy, I got some news!”, but she is left out in the post by Charlotte.

Charlotte says, ‘Me too. I didn’t want to say anything until we were all together, but Harry and I made up and he asked me to marry him. [He has the ring] created from the one Richard Burton gave to Elizabeth Taylor’.

Once Carrie’s window opens, she reveals, “Oh, Berger broke up with me on a post-it.” Read it and cry, my friends… I remember when breaking up with someone on the phone was considered bad form.”

Then when Charlotte tries to comfort Carrie, she holds up her ring and Carrie shockingly slaps her Post-it over Charlotte’s ring and says, “Paper covers rock.”

Comments on Twitter quickly revealed the anger at Carrie’s stance, with users writing: ‘Carrie is such a bad friend… Hate me all you want but I can never hate Carrie. My favorite toxic queen… Carrie is a mess… Oh, she’s a loser for that…

‘Why I hate Carrie Bradshaw… I will never understand how women never saw what a horrible person she was… I honestly don’t think I could watch this show because she is literally unbearable… The way Carrie monopolizes every conversation…

“Growing up means realizing that Carrie Bradshaw is really terrible and Charlotte York is a real girly girl… I remember watching Carrie absolutely in love and then watching it again. I realized she was a hypocrite and a terrible friend…

‘Samantha Jones reigns supreme… Looking back, everyone I knew who said “I’m the Carrie of the group” turned out to be a nightmare with main character syndrome…

“A huge… When it originally aired, I think younger people thought Carrie was the most relatable and likeable. I think the thirty-somethings knew from the start that Carrie was full of flaws. I suspect this was done on purpose.”
