The son of a former Premier League star could be Liverpool’s next teenage sensation after impressing in the Reds’ youth academy.

The 17-year-old forward has made waves with Liverpool’s Under-14 team, scoring an impressive 90 goals in a single season.

And according to Honduran outlet Diario Diezthe Reds are now keen to tie the teenager down to a long-term contract at Anfield.

The man in question is Keyrol Figueroa, the son of Maynor Figueroa, who played 214 Premier League games with Wigan and Hull between 2008 and 2015.

Born in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, Figueroa Jr looks set to follow in his father’s footsteps into the Premier League.

According to reports, Liverpool have been working for ‘several weeks’ on a new deal for the teenager and to ‘secure a pathway to the first team’.

Figueroa joined Liverpool’s youth academy as an Under-14 player and made his debut for the Under-18 team in the 2021-2022 season, while still playing for the Under-16s.

Blessed with great pace, Figueroa is capable of scoring spectacular goals, and in 2022-23 he played for the U18s as a freshman.

The 17-year-old represents the US at international level and scored seven goals in seven games at the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship in Mexico last season, with the US losing 3-1 to the hosts in the final.

It has been a fantastic season for Liverpool’s youngsters, with a number of players making their mark in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Reds had eight youth academy players in the squad for their 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Twenty-year-old Conor Bradley started the final, while Jayden Danns and Jarell Quansah – 18 and 21 respectively – came off the bench along with Bobby Clark and James McConnell – both 19.

The latter trio and Bradley all started in the 3-0 win over Southampton in the fifth round of the FA Cup alongside 18-year-old Lewis Koumas, who scored on his professional debut.

Danns, meanwhile, came off the bench to score twice as the Reds recorded a quarter-final draw against Manchester United and 16-year-old Trey Nyoni also made his debut.
