The actress says this in a piece The Hollywood Reporter that both Janine’s role and the role she plays in a Cabaret adaptation had abortions, which served as inspiration to speak out after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

“People talk about how much they love Janine and how much Janine has inspired them, and it felt important to me to talk about my own experiences,” Brewer said of the character, who had an abortion storyline in the show’s fourth season .

She continued: ‘At the moment I’m doing theater in the West End, which I’ve wanted to do all my life, and this character has also had an abortion. I was preparing for this audition during the overthrow of Roe.

“I played Janine, in preparation for this audition, and now every night I play a woman going through the feelings of getting pregnant, wanting to keep it, deciding not to keep it, because of the life she wants for herself.”
