While a second said: ‘Okay for my money that was the best special of the Grand Tour era. I loved it, especially how much fun they seemed to be having for the most part. The dynamic and camaraderie between the three who love/hate each other was always the best part.”

Another added: ‘The Grand Tour Sand Job is just brilliant 10/10.’

And: ‘The end of the last Grand Tour special was Peak Top Gear; incredible cars, landscapes, music and references to a motorsport. Glad it’s not the last special’.

It comes after Richard revealed co-stars could make a surprise career move after leaving the show.

The trio joined the streaming service in 2015 to continue his motoring adventures after their time on Top Gear, but will now end the show after five series.

Richard, 54, said that while nothing was set in stone, they could potentially present a show similar to Amanda Holden and Alan Carr’s makeover series, The Italian Job.

When asked if he could see car enthusiasts renovating a building abroad, he joked The sun: “That’s really not a bad idea, I could make a note of it and claim it as my own.”

Richard went on to say that they were too busy concentrating on the final series of The Grand Tour, which is expected to air later this year, to think about the future.

Saying, ‘It’s like making a movie and the quality of the production, you can’t do that without the many skilled people on board, and they’re the same ones who have been with us for 20 years.’

“So that’s why – and I’m not going to skip this – thinking about the ending and what comes next is still a long way off as we’re still in the process of making the series. It’s a long job.’

It comes after Jeremy revealed the trio’s two-decade collaboration would come to an end after Jeremy revealed they had nothing else to do.

Narrate The times: ‘I’ve driven cars higher than anyone else and further north than anyone else. We’ve done everything you can do with a car. When we discussed what to do next, people just threw their arms in the air.’

He also cited himself as “unfit, fat and old” as another reason it was time for the end of the “immensely physical” show, which followed the hosts camping on the beach and racing speedboats in ongoing series.

He also brushed off any suggestions of a feud with his co-hosts, saying: “We have spent more time in each other’s company than in our families over the past 25 years.”

“So I don’t think it would have lasted as long if we hated each other as much as James likes to think.”

Before it was revealed that ‘options were being explored for a new incarnation’ of the show, which could offer the trio the opportunity to reunite on screen.

An insider told this Sun last year that the ‘surprising’ decision ‘very much marks the end of an era for the three presenters’, who have worked together since 2003.

They added that while the show is one of the streaming platform’s most-watched shows, “the guys aren’t worried about it all moving forward in the years and they have a lot of other projects to pursue.”

The source told the publication that the broadcasters “felt the time was right and wanted to reach a peak if the show remained popular.”
