A new video released by the Houston Police Department shows the gruesome moments when two passengers held an Uber driver at gunpoint.

The shocking situation, which included one of the men demanding the driver get out of the vehicle and yelling ‘I’m going to kill you’, was documented by the Uber driver, who had a camera on his dashboard.

The victim, an Army Reserves veteran, managed to escape by accelerating and pulling the men out of his car before taking off and finding a place of safety.

While the incident took place in October, Houston police released the footage Tuesday in hopes someone can identify the suspects and bring them to justice.

The aggravated robbery took place around 11am on October 18 when the Uber driver, identified as Dovran, picked up a man named ‘MJ’ from a restaurant.

After just five minutes in the car, one of the two men he had picked up in the 7600 block of Westheimer pulled out a gun and threatened him.

‘MJ’ set up a delivery location for an address near a Walmart until later pinning the location to an apartment complex located at 2929 Dunvale Road.

In that direction, the two men tried to assault the man, who has been driving with Uber for five years, according to Click 2 Houston.

The passenger demanded that Dovran get out of the vehicle while pressing a gun to his head.

The other passenger in the car can be seen trying to reach his seat as the other threatens the driver.

‘Get out of the car. Get the shit out of the car,’ says one of the suspects in the video.

Dovran somehow managed to stay calm and focus on staying alive.

“I wasn’t scared in that situation at the time,” the host told ABC13. ‘He was just trying to escape. Luckily, he didn’t shoot me.

As the suspect continued to threaten Dovran, the second got out of the car and opened the driver’s door.

The suspect then tried to steal the man’s phone, police said.

At some point during the fight over the phone, Dovran was able to tackle the second suspect to the ground, all while the first suspect was still holding the gun.

Dovran later said he decided to speed up, hoping to at least put some distance between himself and the other suspect.

“I was thinking, ‘Okay, if I go, at least one guy will be after me because I was outside.'” Fortunately, the guy who was in the driver’s seat jumped out,” Dovran explained.

Uber issued the following statement to Click 2 Houston regarding the terrifying incident:

“The actions of the cyclists shown in the video were chilling to watch and we are grateful that the driver was not injured,” the company said.

We removed passenger access and reached out to the driver to offer support. We hope to help the police identify those responsible.’

The rideshare company claims on its website that it allows drivers to end a ride anytime they feel unsafe.
