Team GB’s cycling stars continued their stunning run of Olympic medals in the men’s team sprint, winning silver against the Netherlands, who reclaimed their Olympic title with a new world record.
The Dutch, who broke their own record in the qualifying series for the final, did so again with a lightning-fast time of 40.949 seconds. They received a standing ovation from the Parisian public.
The British trio of Jack Carlin, Hamish Turnbull and Ed Lowe defeated Germany in their heat and qualified for the gold medal. In the Netherlands, however, they faced strong opponents.
The Dutch team of Roy van den Berg, Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland formed the same selection that defeated Great Britain in Tokyo to win gold. The British could therefore take revenge.
However, the Dutch were once again in control and won Olympic gold in this event twice in a row.

Of the British team that was defeated in Tokyo on Tuesday, only one remained: Carlin. Turnbull and Lowe were making their Olympic debuts in Paris.
This sees Team GB continue their solid record of winning Olympic medals in the men’s team sprint, having won gold in London, Beijing and Rio, but three years ago they settled for silver.
