Sydney Trains cancelled and delayed,  commuters warned to find alternative transport

The Sydney Trains network has been thrown into chaos due to a widespread communications outage.

Commuters were urged to postpone their travel plans and expect major delays Friday morning.

It is clear that the entire network has been affected.

‘Take into account sufficient extra travel time due to a network-wide communication problem. If possible, postpone your trip or consider using other transportation. We will keep you updated as we have more information,” read an alert from Sydney Trains.

‘Stops and platforms may change at short notice and journeys may take longer. Please listen to the announcements and check the information screens before boarding the train.’

The chaos sparked angry reactions from fed-up commuters on social media.

‘Why is this network so unreliable? Breakdowns happen too often despite constant maintenance outages,” one man said.

Another raged: just higher rates, extended peak hours, although Covid is gone, but good service as usual.’

Another passenger caught up in the chaos shared a screenshot of services delayed by 23 to 31 minutes on the north coastline.

“Another proud day for Sydney trains,” he wrote.

The travel disruptions come on top of previous delays on the T4 line due to urgent train repairs at Wolli Creek.
