Most of Australia will remain dry for the rest of the week as the threat of a cyclone hitting the country’s northeast diminishes significantly.
On Thursday morning, the Bureau of Meteorology reported that Tropical Cyclone Paul, currently east of the Queensland coast, is weakening.
The system is slowly moving northeast towards the Coral Sea and is not expected to make landfall in Queensland.
‘Paul is located more than 1000 km east-northeast of Cairns and does not currently pose an immediate threat to the Australian mainland or any of its external territories,’ Weather zone said meteorologist Ben Domensino.
‘At this stage, Tropical Cyclone Paul should weaken from Friday and is expected to wake below tropical cyclone strength by Saturday.’

A second system, tropical low 12U, has a lower chance of developing into a cyclone.
Meanwhile, the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Olga will continue to bring rain to southern Western Australia throughout the weekend.
Northeastern Australia, the Top End of the Northern Territory, coastal New South Wales, eastern Victoria and southwestern Tasmania all have a moderate chance of very light rainfall.
Despite low rainfall forecasts, several flood warnings remain in force across Queensland.
A major flood warning has been issued for the Balonne, Barcoo and Warrego rivers.
The Georgina, Moonie River, Weir rivers and Eyre Creek are under a moderate flood warning, while minor flooding is forecast for the Thomson River, Dawson River and Cooper Creek.
Dangerous surf conditions are expected on the coasts of Byron, Coffs, Macquarie, Sydney, Illawarra and Batemans on Friday.
“Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating and swimming,” the Bureau said.
Sydneysiders expect a mostly sunny Friday, followed by partly cloudy conditions on Saturday and Sunday
Sydney
Sydneysiders are expecting a mostly sunny Friday with a slight chance of showers in coastal areas along with light winds.
The warm weather in the city is expected to continue throughout the weekend with a high of 24 degrees on Friday, followed by another 24 degrees on Saturday and 25 degrees on Sunday.
There will be partly cloud over Sydney skies on Saturday and Sunday, with a chance of morning fog in the city’s west.
Melbourne
Melbourne is expected to be gray on Friday with a chance of morning fog, followed by showers in the south-eastern suburbs. In the rest of the city the chance of showers is average.
The southern city will be much cooler than Sydney with a high of just 18 degrees Celsius and light winds on Friday.
Temperatures may rise to 12 degrees on Saturday, followed by 11 degrees on Sunday.
Showers over the city are expected to clear on Saturday, bringing a partly cloudy weekend.
Melbourne is expected to be gray on Friday with a chance of morning fog, followed by showers in the southeastern suburbs
Brisbane
A high of 27 degrees Celsius is forecast in Brisbane on Friday, along with mostly sunny conditions.
The city has a small chance of showers with light wind speeds up to 20 km/h in the late morning and afternoon.
Brisbane has a chance of light showers on Saturday, followed by mostly sunny conditions on Sunday.
Canberra
Partly cloudy conditions are forecast in Canberra through next week.
The weak wind turns to the northwest and reaches speeds of up to 20 km/h on Friday afternoon.
High temperatures in the city are expected to remain around 20 degrees Celsius, while a low of 5 degrees Celsius is forecast on Saturday, followed by 9 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Perth
Mostly sunny conditions are forecast in Perth on Friday, along with a high of 29 degrees Celsius.
Any cloud over the city is expected to lift for a sunny Saturday and Sunday, both with a high of 28 degrees Celsius.
Adelaide
Adelaide’s forecast is partly cloudy through next week.
Temperatures are expected to remain around 20 degrees this weekend.
Darwin
Darwin is finally approaching the end of the wet season, with showers expected to clear the city on Friday and into Saturday and Sunday.
High temperatures are expected to remain around 30 degrees Celsius, while low temperatures will remain in the mid-20s Celsius.

Hobart
Partly cloud over Hobart on Friday is expected to turn grayer on Saturday.
Tasmania’s capital will remain relatively cool with highs of 19ºC and 20ºC, coupled with lows of 12ºC.
