Garage in an exclusive suburb hits the market for an insanely high price – but wait until you hear what the real estate agent suggests you do with it
- Sydney small garage sells for $88,000
- Agent spells it as ‘multi-purpose property’
- He even suggests that someone could be living in it
A small garage in Sydney has hit the market for $88,000 with an estate agent suggesting future owners could live in it – highlighting the dire state of the real estate market.
The garage, or as the advertisement calls it, ‘a multi-purpose residential property’, is located below apartments in Lane Cove, on Sydney’s affluent North Shore.
At just 17 square feet, the brick-walled ‘property’ will fit well into a larger vehicle and is said to be unsuitable for the owner’s van.
But real estate agent Alex Haddard, of Property Services Agency/EXP Australia, is thinking far beyond the fairly modest box.
‘Is it a parking lot? Is it a storage room? An office? A resting place for the day?’ the list asks.
This 17sqm garage on the Sydney North Shore is going for a staggering $88,000 with a real estate agent suggesting someone could live in it
The owner of the garage will also have access to the swimming pool belonging to the apartment blocks
“It’s an enclosed garage with a window for natural light. The rest is up to your imagination, subject to required approvals, of course.
The advertisement states that the garage has an electrical outlet, to be connected to the mains electricity supply, and comes with a communal swimming pool for the new owner to enjoy,
“This property is conveniently located with communal toilets five meters around the corner,” the listing reads.
‘This is by far the cheapest North Coast property I’ve seen in 30 years! Be quick! It’s a bargain!’
Mr. Haddard believes the garage, which he called “the most unique thing I’ve seen on the North Shore,” could be used as a storage for a boat, a sheltered mancave or as a place to live.
“Realistically it’s not meant to be lived in, but because it’s residential and has natural lighting, there’s a loophole in the system that makes it possible,” Haddard told the Daily telegram.
‘It has no facilities, but the building does have communal toilets and one of the best things about the property is that it also has a swimming pool.
“There are no shared showers, but with 24/7 gyms nearby that could be an option. Every buyer should do their due diligence.”
The ‘property’ comes with its own natural light and has public toilets conveniently located just five meters away
If purchased as an investment, the bare brick-lined garage could be rented out for about $60 to $80 a week.
The garage is reportedly being sold by an electrician who recently bought it along with the corresponding unit in the strata building.
He planned to park his electrician’s van in the garage, but felt it wasn’t big enough.
It’s not the only expensive Sydney car park up for grabs.
A space in the downtown suburb of Chippendale is being advertised for $85,000.
Median property prices in Lane Cove last year ranged from $2,947,500 for homes to $900,000 for units.
