Susan Tolsky has died aged 79… actress best known for her work on Here Come the Brides and Madame’s Place

Actress Susan Tolsky, best known for her work on the TV shows Madame’s Place and Here Come the Brides, died of natural causes at the age of 79.

Tolsky’s sister Noel Foreman confirmed The Hollywood Reporter that the comedic actress died on October 9 at her home in Toluca Lake, California. Her funeral took place on October 31 at the Angeleno Valley Mortuary in North Hollywood.

The Houston-born actress played the role of Biddie Cloom in 47 episodes of Here Come the Brides from 1968 to 1970. iMDband played Bernadette Van Gilder on 55 episodes of Madame’s Place in 1982.

She also appeared on The New Bill Cosby Show, a variety show that aired on CBS from 1972-1973.

She appeared in films such as 1971’s Pretty Maids All in a Row, 1973’s Charley and the Angel, and 1981’s The Devil and Max Devlin.

Speaking to TV Guide in 1969, she described the tone of her voice as “a chicken with a hernia.”

She told the publication, “I realized a long time ago that men don’t look at me and pant and go crazy. But at least I’m not worried about turning 40.”

She made numerous guest appearances on TV shows in the 1970s and 1980s, including Love, American Style, Quincy, ME, Fantasy Island, Alice, Barney Miller, and Webster.

Tolsky had spent more than two decades working as a voice actor from the 1980s when she provided vocals for shows such as Darkwing Duck, The Smurfs, Aladdin, Foofur, Bobby’s World and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures.

Tolsky, who never married, was born in Houston on April 6, 1943 to parents Abe and Sarah, and had an older sister, according to the paper.

Tolsky’s education included stints at Bellaire High School and then the University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated in 1967.

She had initially looked forward to a career as a nurse, as she had experience working in hospitals, but eventually changed her major to theater and English.

She auditioned in show business for Screen Gems casting director Eddie Foy III, and starred in episodes of The Second Hundred Years and Bewitched in 1968.

Tolsky also appeared in the 1972 CBS series Here’s Lucy with Lucille Ball and Lucy Arnaz, as the neighbor of Arnaz’s character Kim Carter. She would be a fixture in a spin-off with Arnaz, but it was not picked up.
