Polls conducted just days before President Joe Biden’s departure from the 2024 race have revealed whether Democrats actually want Kamala Harris to be commander in chief.
A poll released Wednesday found that about six in 10 Democrats think Vice President Harris would do a good job if Biden were to step down and she became president.
A poll conducted by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Researchwhich found that a majority of Democrats are confident the country will be in good hands if Harris enters the White House.
About 58 percent of Democrats think Harris would make a good president, while 22 percent think she wouldn’t and 20 percent “don’t know enough to say.”
For comparison, 30 percent of the general public think Harris would make a good president, while a whopping 87 percent of Republicans said she would NOT be a good president.
This hypothetical situation has now become a reality, as Biden has actually withdrawn from the presidential race and is backing Harris in his fight against former President Donald Trump.
Surprising new polls have revealed whether Democrats actually want Kamala Harris to be president, as Biden’s popularity among the left declines.
The shocking poll came as more Democrats spoke out against the 81-year-old Biden and urged the president to withdraw from the race.
The list of House and Senate Democrats calling on Biden to withdraw from the election has grown in the weeks following his disastrous debate performance against Trump.
Biden appeared to continue to resist as pressure mounted, with his advisers repeatedly assuring the press that he would remain at the top of the list.
The biggest blow to his hopes of reining in party leaders came Thursday, when The Washington Post reported that former President Barack Obama had told allies that Biden should seriously consider staying in the race.
By then, multiple sources close to the campaign were saying Biden could withdraw this weekend, and that ultimately came to pass.
Earlier this week, Biden revealed the reason why he would withdraw from the presidential race.
He said his doctor had to tell him directly that he had a medical condition that made it necessary.
“If I had a medical condition and doctors came to me and said, I have this problem and I have that problem,” Biden said in an interview with BET News.
A few days later, Biden was diagnosed with COVID after taking a test on Wednesday and experiencing a runny nose and cough.
Later, he carefully boarded Air Force One, via the shorter of the two flights of stairs, for the flight home.
In the letter in which Biden announced he was withdrawing his candidacy, he made no mention of a medical condition that would have prompted him to withdraw.
He did say he plans to address the nation “later this week” to give a more detailed explanation of why he withdrew from the race.
