WWE returns to Michigan for the first time since WrestleMania in 2007, with SummerSlam scheduled to take place at Ford Field, home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions.

WWE is set to host this year’s SummerSlam in Detroit for the first time in 30 years, marking the first time a wrestling event has been held in Michigan since WrestleMania in 2007.

“We’re excited to have Ford Field play host to WWE’s biggest event of the summer and look forward to the WWE Universe coming together in Detroit to celebrate the long-awaited return of SummerSlam to Michigan,” said Dan Ventrelle, EVP, Talent in WWE.

Ford Field is already home to the NFL’s Detroit Lions.

“Landing WWE SummerSlam at Ford Field is a signature victory for Detroit and continues the Detroit Sports Commission’s push to bring major sporting events to the region,” said DSC CEO Dave Beachnau.

“Metro Detroit enjoys a special place in WWE history and has produced many iconic moments. Thank you to the entire WWE family for entrusting us with this incredible opportunity, and we look forward to providing a first-class experience.”

This year’s SummerSlam will take place in Michigan for the first time since WrestleMania in 2007.

Ford Field, home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, will host the 65,000-seat event

Fourteen years ago, when WrestleMania came to town, 80,103 fans were in the venue, setting an attendance record.

Tickets for SummerSlam will go on sale on April 14 via Ticketmaster and the event will be broadcast live on Peacock.

SummerSlam is considered to be the second biggest show hosted by WWE after its annual event, WrestleMania, the world’s largest professional wrestling promotion.

His new location comes amid difficult times in WWE. In January, Chief Executive Vince McMahon rejoined the organization’s board after resigning as CEO and Chairman last summer, following allegations of sexual misconduct.

His daughter, Stephanie, stepped down from her role as co-CEO and chair of the board upon her father’s return.

But, for now, it looks like business as usual until further developments. Last year, SummerSlam was held in Nashville, Tennessee.

Vince McMahon, left, is back on the WWE board, though the former CEO and his daughter Stephanie have stepped down
