Grim images have spotted rats roaming completely free at night in a Chinese restaurant in New York.
The video captured by a passerby shows at least three rodents at the Royal Queen eatery in Flushing, Queens.
You see the rats rummaging around in boxes, but also in and on a hot food counter at the Dim Sum restaurant.
Recent research by a New York-based pest control company MMPC suggest a post-Covid spike in New York City’s rat population from two to three million rodents since 2010.
That means one in every two to three of New York’s 8.5 million residents.

The video starts with the unnamed person behind the camera zooming into the serving area of the restaurant and seeing some boxes in front of which we can see a rat.
Soon another one appears, a little further behind the chest.
Looking to the left, we see a third rodent on the hot food display, which still had some contents inside, before the shot zooms out again and the restaurant’s logo becomes visible on TV screens above the counter.
Royal Queen restaurant has been contacted for comment on the stomach-churning images taken on September 28.
But this is not an isolated case. In September, a darkly ironic video surfaced of a rat crawling around the health inspection board of a New York restaurant.
The large rodent was spotted through the window of Dixon Place, Manhattan, by a bewildered pedestrian on September 17.
Overall, rat sightings have gone viral on ‘RatTok’, with New York being a hotspot for the clips.

One such video was taken on August 30 and shows “dozens” of rats emerging from roadside bins, prompting a group of five New Yorkers to literally jump over them as the rodents frantically darted back and forth across the sidewalk.
Taryn Brady, 29, who filmed the incident, said she was left in ‘fear and disgust’.
These gruesome encounters come after Ny Breaking.com reported that New York City is now so overrun with rats that tour guides are offering trips to visit the worst rodent-infested areas.
In April, New York City Mayor Eric Adams appointed the city’s first-ever “rat czar,” with a salary of $155,000 per year, demonstrating just how serious this problem is in the area.
