West End Plaza attack, Albury: Man is stabbed in front of terrified shoppers on an escalator outside Kmart

A man has been stabbed outside a Kmart in front of shocked customers.

Emergency services called to the West End Plaza in Albury, on the border of New South Wales and Victoria, about 6pm on Tuesday after reports of a knife attack.

Officers found a 35-year-old man at the scene with a wound to his back. He was rushed to Albury Base Hospital for further treatment.

Witnesses claim the man suffered the injuries on an escalator directly outside the Kmart.

The injured man could be seen surrounded by police and paramedics next to the bottom of the escalators.

Traces of blood could be seen on the ground at the gruesome scene.

No arrests have been made yet.

The mall remains open to the public while police and detectives begin an investigation into the incident.
