SNL star Chris Redd says his face was ‘gushing blood’ after brass knuckles attack in NYC

Former SNL comedian Chris Redd said his face was gushing with blood after being randomly attacked with brass knuckles as he entered NYC’s historic Comedy Cellar.

The attack on him last week left the comedian with two fractures to the nose and one to the cheek, he told The Daily Beast’s Last Laugh podcast.

Redd, 37, arrived at the location on foot “like any New Yorker” when a stranger punched him.

He said his first reaction after the attack was to get to his planned set. The comedian said he started walking down the hall stairs with blood still streaming from his nose, but he soon realized he needed medical attention.

“If we could have stopped the bleeding, I would have gone onstage,” he said in the podcast. ‘

“I can’t bleed on them — that’s kind of weird, that’s not the show they paid for,” Redd said.

He also explained that he was hit with something made of metal that he believes to be “brass knuckles” because of the massive amount of blood that came out of his face and the way it cut his “nose to the bone.”

However, Redd was unable to explain why he was punched out of the blue. It remains unclear why the man – who has yet to be identified – attacked Redd for no reason before running away.

He was immediately knocked down, making him unable to pursue his attacker.

The NYPD also did not respond to a request for comment on whether there are any suspects in the case, or if they have any idea what prompted the attack.

Redd, 37, was left with two broken bones in his nose and one in his cheek. That’s what makes him believe he was hit with brass knuckles

Redd started the podcast by joking that the blow — which was recorded on CCTV — resembled a “one fist surprise party.”

He described texting his cousin who was nearby in the run-up to the attack and being beaten when he put the phone back in his pocket.

As I was putting my phone in my pocket and walking down to the basement as usual, this man hit me in the face with something metal,” said Redd.

He also explained why he thought he had been hit with brass knuckles or at least a metal object.

“I’ve been boxing for years. I’ve been punched in the face before, so it wasn’t scary,” Redd said, adding, “what was terrifying was how much blood came out of my face.”

“I thought it was brass knuckles because of the way it cut my nose to the bone,” he said.

Blood splattered on the stairs to the comedy cellar. Redd said in the podcast that he wanted to go down to the basement to perform his set as planned

The comedian describes the wounds he sustained after the blow that landed him in Bellevue hospital.

“I have two fractures in my nose and a fracture in one cheek. A fist doesn’t usually do that all at once,” he said again, referring to his attacker’s use of brass knuckles.

“That guy just hit me and ran,” Redd said.

He also told listeners that when the attack happened, he didn’t realize he had fallen to the ground. However, when viewing surveillance images of the blow, he saw himself fall due to the blow.

He was also quick to explain why he didn’t run after his attacker, suggesting there was “so much blood I couldn’t chase him down the street.”

Redd also seemed excited that no one else was chasing the man.

Dramatic surveillance footage shows the moment Redd was knocked out in New York by the suction cup that spurted blood across the sidewalk.

You can see Redd strolling down the busy street as he was on his way to perform at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village, a place where he often does stand-up sets.

The grainy footage shows him suddenly slumping to the ground after being punched in the face at 9.40pm on Wednesday.

Spectators immediately jump out of their seats to help the comedian, whose nose was broken by the impact.

Staff at a nearby restaurant had to scrub the sidewalk with hot water after the attack to clean up the blood.

The attack on Redd by a mysterious attacker appears to be completely unprovoked at this stage.

The alleged attack came just weeks after it was revealed that Redd is dating co-star Kenan Thompson’s ex-wife Christina Evangeline.

The two played together on SNL, but Redd left in 2022 after the show’s 47th season.
