Gardner said she knows “that person will always be in my life and will change in a different way.”

Gardner, who has been a cast member of the NBC comedy since 2017, made it seem like she and her estranged husband remained on amicable terms, as she said she still has “all the equal love and respect in the world” for the person in the film. ask.

“It was just a period of a few years of transition and sadness and hope and loss and all those things,” Gardner said. “But I will say that during that time I feel like I never wasted a day getting to know myself, becoming a better version of myself and becoming a better friend and future partner, I think.”

Gardner said she learned valuable lessons from the painful life experience, calling it “a really cool reward for something that was very painful and uncomfortable.”

She said her inner circle of friends was essential during the difficult time.

“I will say the biggest thing I learned during that time is to lean on the women in your life and lean on your girlfriends,” Gardner said. “I already had great friends and family, but I just want to say that women showed up in such an incredible way.”

Gardner said her inner circle made it clear that her “romantic partner … doesn’t have to be (her) emotional rock.”

“A lot of times the women in my life just know better things to say and better ways to love me and care for me in some of those moments.”

Gardner, who has also done extensive work as a voice actor on shows like SuperMansion, Alien News Desk and Bratz, said it’s important for friends to be there for each other during tough times.

“We all know, no matter what kind of relationships they have with your partner one day, you will love them more than anything and you will praise them among your friends,” Gardner said. “And some days they’ll feel like your worst enemy and you’ll curse them to your friends.

Gardner said she strives to make her friends feel comfortable talking to her about their own romantic problems.
