Slipknot announces 25th anniversary tour across US and Europe with band returning to their hometown for Knotfest 2024

Critically acclaimed nu metal band Slipknot celebrates the anniversary of their first album on the road.

The band announced on their social media pages today that their North American tour dates for their Here Comes the Pain 25th anniversary tour would begin on August 6.

“Every time I walked on stage, it was never about how many people were there because my culture, the maggots, always showed up,” said founder Shawn “Clown” Crahan Pitchfork.

“But as we’ve grown as a band, we’ve had fewer and fewer of those intimate, personal moments, trading them in for huge ones.”

The band wants to make their tour “more personal on the anniversary,” and Crahan warns fans to prepare for a slap in the face.

Two other bands joining Slipknot on their 25th anniversary tour are Orbitculture and Vended.

Slipknot concludes their tour by headlining this year’s Knotfest Iowa music festival in their hometown on September 21.

Crahan, Joey Jordison, Anders Colsefni, Donnie Steele, Josh ‘Gnar’ Brainard and Paul Gray founded Slipknot in Des Moines in 1995.

Colsefni and Steele left Slipknot before the band’s self-titled debut album was released.

However, by the time they left, current members Mick Thomson, Corey Taylor, Sid Wilson and Jim Root had joined the band.

The two other musicians who were previously members of Slipknot in 1999 are Chris Fehn and Craig ‘133’ Jones.

Their debut album did not reach the top 50 of the Billboard 200 charts, but it did reach it number one on the magazine’s Heatseekers chart.

According to MTV News, their first album sold 360,000 copies within six months of its initial release.

Crahan told MTV News in 2000 that the band “doesn’t do anything unless it’s good, unless it feels good.”

“It’s weird for us because we’ve been saying these things since the beginning. But now people are starting to pay attention to it,” he added.

The band earned their first Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance and the album has since gone double platinum.

The band’s fame only grew and their second album Iowa debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 in 2001.

Two of the songs from Iowa were nominated for Best Metal Performance at the 2002 Grammy Awards.

Slipknot was nominated for two more Grammys in 2005 before taking home the award for Best Metal Performance in 2006 for Before I Forget.

Crahan dedicated the award to his father who had passed away shortly before the ceremony, but at least two members of Slipknot had not kept their trophies on a shelf at home.

‘I think I used it as a door stop for a while. Then I had it on the back of my toilet,” Root said during one Google Play interview from 2014.

The band has received a total of eleven Grammy nominations, including Best Metal Performance for their song Hive Mind last year.

Slipknot won their first Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2006, and bandmate Jim Root revealed that he used his award as a doorstop.

The band has had members come and go, including Gray and Jordison, who died in 2010 and 2021.

Jones and longtime drummer Jay Weinberg also left Slipknot last year.

However, Slipknot announced on their social media pages yesterday that Eloy Casagrande would become the band’s new drummer.

So far, the band has not announced which musician will replace Jones.
