Sky Sports News crashes after global Microsoft tech outage

  • The company said they were unable to broadcast live due to a technical issue
  • Microsoft’s global system freeze has grounded flights, hospitals and banks

Sky Sports News has crashed after a massive global technical failure involving Microsoft systems.

The malfunction has caused chaos worldwide, grounding planes and taking hospitals, trains, banks, stock markets and TV channels offline.

Because Windows is one of the most widely used operating systems in the world, the outage affects virtually every sector of the global economy.

Sky News is also affected by the outage, with the main news and sports channels currently unavailable.

Presenter Matt Kabir Floyd saw the humour in it, tweeting: ‘Sky Sports News has also been hit by the global situation with Microsoft…nothing is really working…not sure when or if we’ll be on…thankfully I woke up at 3.30am.’

‘Our live sports coverage will continue today on @SkySportsGolf and @SkyCricket.’

The company then wrote on X: ‘Due to a global technical issue, Sky Sports News is currently unable to broadcast live.
