Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle came extremely close to the track during second practice of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Brundle was trackside at turn ten to see how the drivers were doing at the Nouvelle chicane at Circuit de Monaco ahead of Sunday’s race.

The former British racing driver focused on how the drivers used the ‘curb to turn their cars’. However, the fans were busy with something else.

Sky viewers couldn’t believe how close Brundle was to the action – with one fan joking that all health and safety protocols had gone out the window.

Brundle was unaware of his proximity to the cars. The former driver said he felt he could ‘get into the action’ from his position.

Speaking Sky Sports, Brundle said: ‘It’s fascinating to see the drivers down here using the furniture, the curb to turn their car. If you look at the inside of the rear tire, it’s hanging in the air, the car jacks, it’s like a tricycle.

“The right front goes over the curb, he jacks the car up, the rear then slides off because there’s one wheel in the air, he positions the car nicely in front of the exit so they can get the car as straight as possible early and get better traction.

“The McLaren struggled for grip when it came through the door here early. You don’t know where to look for action down here and I feel like I can almost get in the way.’

Fans couldn’t help but take to Twitter to comment on Brundle’s positioning. One fan wrote, “Is Martin Brundle just on track?”.

Another Formula 1 fan wrote: ‘#Martinbrundle trackside at #MonacoGP raises 2 fingers for health and safety’.

While one Twitter user added, “Martin Brundle basically gives drivers a high five as they pass through Nouvelle.”
