‘Sickening’ photos show heartless passenger abandoning his dog at Pittsburgh airport where cops found pet tied to a pole in parking garage

  • A small dog was found abandoned in a short-term parking garage at Pittsburgh International Airport
  • The puppy was seen with an owner at the airport just before the heartbreaking discovery
  • Police said they have not yet identified the callous person responsible – who was believed to be a ticketed passenger –

An abandoned dog left at Pittsburgh International Airport was found tied to a post in a parking garage.

Hours earlier, the dog was seen on CCTV walking through the terminal with a man pushing a luggage trolley.

The alleged owner had the dog – which appeared to be a Chihuahua – on a leash next to them as they made their way through the airport.

Later CCTV footage showed the same man with a different type of luggage trolley and without the dog, suggesting he had callously dumped the dog.

Police believe the unidentified man was a ticketed passenger leaving the airport.

A few hours earlier, the dog walked through the airport with a man pushing a luggage cart, CCTV footage showed.

Although the dog was not microchipped, police continue to investigate the circumstances that could lead someone to abandon their dog.

“There is no excuse for leaving your pets behind,” Allegheny County police said after the heartbreaking discovery.

‘Officers responded and were able to free the dog, which fortunately appears to be fine.’

It is unclear whether the pair had already cleared security or checked in for a flight, but it is believed he left the airport and re-entered.

The series of events suggests that the dog may not have been allowed to fly with its owner – or that it may have cost extra to bring the animal on board the plane.

One Facebook commenter said: ‘This is sickening and happens far too often.’

A similar incident happened in August at the same airport in Pittsburgh.

The woman was charged for leaving her dog in the Pittsburgh Airport parking lot after being told she couldn’t bring the pet on board without a crate.

Her French bulldog was found “unattended in a stroller” around 5:30 a.m. near a short-term parking lot at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Officers were able to track down the owner through a microchip in the dog’s neck, but said their attempts to contact the unidentified woman were unsuccessful.

The seven-year-old dog was found to be in good health after the ordeal and was taken to a local animal shelter, where he now hopes to find a new, friendlier home.

Although many people on social media said the dog was better off without its owner, the avid flyer could now be charged with animal abandonment by the Pennsylvania state dog warden.

The woman made the shameful decision to abandon the dog at the airport after failing to convince airline staff it was an emotional support animal.
