Nostalgic Australians are praising a Tasmanian Woolworths store after spotting an unusual detail.
The Scottsdale store was described as a ‘step back in time’ thanks to the supermarket’s old layout and not one self-service checkout had been installed.
While many were big fans of the retro store, it sparked a heated debate as many claimed they preferred the self-service checkouts to waiting in line at the manned checkout.
‘Took a day trip to Scottsdale, Tasmania, as a step back in time. No self-service in sight,” the shopper wrote in one after at Old Shops Australia.
The supermarket is one of the few that has not received a modern update and still has the old checkered floors, analogue vegetable scales, signage and cash register system.

Woolies customers were amazed at the store which they thought had not been touched since the early 1990s, while others could believe the photo had been taken recently.
“Wow, is this photo from today?” a woman asked.
‘We were there last New Year and yes, as an ex-employee we were amazed at how 1995 it was here. But nice, I hope it doesn’t change,” said a second.
“I used to work for a small company that made those perspex signs, I put the green lettering and those customer service signs on all the Woolworth stores up and down the country. Memory unlocked,” a third shared.
‘It doesn’t surprise me that Tassie is always behind the times. That’s amazing,” someone added.

An employee at the Scottsdale store explained why there are no self-service checkouts.
‘I work there. None of our customers seem to want self-service. “Because it was an older store, our service department, which works well, was put on the back burner when our freezers needed to be replaced,” they said.
‘Having frozen food is more important than a nice service area. There are many stores in Tasmania that are not self-service and still function well.”
However, not everyone was a fan of the old layout and many said they preferred the divisive self-service checkouts.
‘How annoying. Standing in an unnecessary line when you could have scanned all your groceries and left the store,” one customer commented.
‘I really like self-service checkouts. I like to pack however I want,” another agreed.
‘I’d hate that. Standing in line forever. So awkward,” said a third.
