Two women die in Alabama nightclub shooting
- Two women were pronounced dead after a shootout at an Alabama nightclub over the Labor Day holiday weekend
- Friends of the victims took them to a nearby hospital, but fell victim to more gunfire after the suspect followed them
- No arrests have yet been made and the suspects are still at large
Two women were killed and several others injured in an early morning shooting that began at an Alabama nightclub and continued as the victims were transported to a local hospital.
Witnesses said that before 2:30 a.m. Monday, a Chevrolet Tahoe pulled up outside the University of Alabama hospital at Birmingham as those inside sought treatment for the victims of the initial shooting.
As they pleaded for help, a car pulled up behind the SUV and began opening fire. That gunfire broke a hospital room window and hit a nearby police car, it reports AL.com.
All the wounded were shot in the nightclub. According to the AL.com report, three others were injured in addition to the two killed.
Police have confirmed that the shooting is being investigated as a double homicide. No arrests have been made and the suspects are still on the run. The University Hospital is the only Level 1 trauma center in Alabama.

The original shooting took place at Aria Restaurant & Lounge, just a five-minute drive from the hospital.
According to the club’s Instagram page, an event called Labor Day Rehab Sunday was taking place at the time of the attack at the venue.
A witness described the gunshots in an interview with AL.com as “iron pipes hitting.”
The two women are the 90th and 91st people to be the victims of a murder in Birmingham so far in 2023.
