A US commercial ship was hit by a missile off the coast of Yemen on Monday, the British military confirmed.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an ‘incident’ had occurred 95 nautical miles south-east of Aden, although details of the incident remain scarce.
The report said only that the ship’s captain reported that the “port side of the ship was struck by a missile from above,” but did not identify the ship or elaborate.
It comes less than a day after Houthi rebels in Yemen launched an attack on a US destroyer in the Red Sea.
The report stated that the port side of a ship had been hit “by a missile from above.” It is currently unknown who was behind the attack and an investigation has been launched.
Private intelligence firm Ambrey said a US bulk carrier flying the Marshall Islands flag was hit by the missile.
