Shaunghna Phillips candidly shares insight into her newborn daughter’s ‘distressing’ birth

‘Her heart rate skyrocketed!’: Shaughna Phillips recalls her newborn daughter’s ‘disturbing’ birth that led to an emergency C-section

Shaughna Phillips has provided insight into the ‘disturbing’ birth of her newborn daughter, which led to her undergoing an emergency c-section.

The Love Island alum, 28, announced earlier this month that she had welcomed a baby girl, Lucia, 04/04/23 at 8:10pm, weighing 8lb 8oz.

And when she took to her Instagram Stories on Friday, Shaughna answered a slew of fan questions and remembered her work.

The reality star recalled her slow dilation before revealing she was forced to rupture her waters by a doctor.

“I then went into labor for 4 hours with only gas and air and when I was next examined I was no longer ‘dilated.’

“The pain was manageable, but when I realized I was out of dilation, I felt deflated. I was then offered a hormone drip [which] sends you contractions from 0-100′.

She continued, “The epidural is the best thing ever invented and I’m so glad I had it!” From 6am to 3pm I went from 2cm to 9cm with minimal pain.”

According to the health service: ‘The cervix must open 10 cm for a baby to pass, this is called full dilation’.

Shaughna continued, “I started pushing for over an hour at 6:30pm, but Lucia came down and slid right back up and her heart rate shot up.”

“I then went in for emergency forceps, but as soon as they put them on her head, she turned around, so they had to stop and go ahead with her emergency C-section.”

She continued, “Once I knew the baby was in distress, I didn’t care how they got her out, I just wanted her as quickly and safely as possible!” The moment I heard her cry, every fear I had left my body.”

Before adding, “I was really sad that I couldn’t give birth as I originally planned, but I’ve always said I’ll have whatever labor it takes to get her here, and that was the most important thing for me.”

Last week, the reality star gave fans a candid look into her life right now, sharing a photo of her asleep in bed.

Taking to her Instagram, Shaughna gave a glimpse of her “reality” with her newborn.

The star – which was detailed earlier how the painful recovery from her cesarean has left her unable to care for her baby comprehensively – was seen sleeping head down in bed.

She lay sprawled across her bed with her newborn asleep beside her, wearing her blonde locks in a messy ponytail and holding a full cup of tea beside her.

Captioning the post, Shaughna shared: “About a week ago…

“I thought I’d bless your timeline with some reality.

“Breastfeeding top, maternity diaper, peppermint tea to help the trapped wind in my shoulder (that pain is worse than any contraction I’ve had, by the way), legs swollen from the surgery, and incredibly tired!”

Can we also appreciate how I managed to fall asleep holding my cup upright?! Talent.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever feel like I’m not flying it? But thank God for my village’.
