Sergio Aguero has claimed that Manchester United remain contenders in this season's Premier League title race.

The Argentinian spent a decade on the blue side of Manchester and famously denied City's rowdy neighbors the title win with his iconic last-minute goal against QPR in 2012.

However, despite United's faltering form so far, Aguero insisted Erik ten Hag's side could still make a run for top spot.

'You can never sleep on Manchester United at this stage of the season. They are one of the biggest threats to Man City's Premier League title.” Aguero told Stake.com

After a strong November period that saw Ten Hag win his third Premier League Manager of the Month award, United struggled this month with just one league win in four, leaving them 11 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Despite the Gunners enjoying another flying start to the season after coming within inches of a first title win in two decades last season, Aguero instead named their north London rivals as contenders for his former side's crown.

'I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou.' He said.

'Despite their ups and downs, Newcastle also have a chance of winning the title because they are always fighting.'

After five league titles and more than 250 goals in all competitions, Aguero left City in 2021 at the end of his contract to join Barcelona.

However, the striker's time in Catalonia would ultimately prove to be short-lived, and less than six months after joining the Nou Camp club, he would retire from football on the advice of his doctors.
