Jaw-dropping moment hooded figure uses a pizza box to light a fire that destroyed a $350,000 McLaren

A luxury supercar worth $350,000 has been destroyed after an arsonist used a pizza box to light a fire under the vehicle while it was parked on the street.

Security cameras captured the hooded firebug hiding from passing cars behind a tree next to the McLaren in the Western Sydney suburb of Sefton Street about 11pm on Friday evening.

The car’s owner, builder and father of three, Hamad Ajaje, bought the car about a year ago and had listed it for sale online three days ago.

β€œIt’s very disturbing, I mean I can’t even look at it anymore,” Mr Ajaje told Nine News.

The footage shows the man holding an umbrella in one hand and using it to shield the flame as he lit a lighter and set the cardboard pizza box on fire.

Mr Ajaje bought the now destroyed McLaren (pictured) a year ago for $350,000

Once the portable incendiary device went off, the footage shows he crouched down, slid it under the bumper of the car and drove out into the street.

Neighbors soon noticed the fire and rushed outside to try to extinguish the car with a garden hose, but to no avail.

Within 15 minutes the fire had grown despite the rainy weather, with the left front of the car forming a bright fireball.

Firefighters arrived just as Mr Ajaje and his teenage son returned to work from a night out for dinner.

β€œIt’s devastating, to be honest, you know the way we came back and saw it on fire and we burst into tears,” Mr Ajaje said.

‘What can you do?

β€œI don’t think anyone has it for us or anything like that.

“Maybe they wanted to go for a ride, but I never gave them the chance.”

The car has been written off and Mr Ajaje says he hopes insurance will cover at least some of the damage.

NSW Police have confirmed they are investigating the fire and detectives are searching for the arsonist.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
