The Seattle Seahawks have officially announced Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as their new head coach.

Macdonald replaces Pete Carroll, who resigned after 13 years at the helm in Seattle.

He now becomes the youngest head coach in the NFL, taking over the top spot from Jerod Mayo, who held the position for just 19 days after being named head coach of the New England Patriots.

A native of Boston, Macdonald spent the early part of his career as an assistant at the University of Georgia before moving to the Ravens.

Between 2014 and 2020, he served as a coaching intern and defensive assistant before becoming the defensive backs coach and then their linebackers coach.

Last year, Macdonald led the NFL’s top scoring defense and sixth-best passing defense

After a one-year stop with Jim Harbaugh at the University of Michigan, Macdonald returned to the Ravens and served two seasons as their defensive coordinator.

Over the past two seasons, Baltimore finished 10th and sixth in total defense in the league.

In 2022, the Ravens had the seventh-worst pass defense in the league, but followed that with the third-best rush defense and third-best scoring defense in the NFL.

This season, that rushing defense fell to 14th in the NFL, but the passing defense improved dramatically to sixth-best in the entire league.

Most importantly, Baltimore finished the 2023 regular season with the best scoring defense in the NFL, averaging just 16.5 points per game.
